The U11 Strikers with their Championship Trophies
in Deptford, New Jersey.
The South Philadelphia Soccer Club seeded four teams in the Deptford Fall Fest over the Columbus Day Weekend. The U13 Strikers, the U11 Strikers, the U10 Lady Strikers and the U8 Lil' Strikers crossed the bridge for their competition this holiday weekend and represented the SPSC in Championship fashion.
Netting the top spot in their bracket, the U11 Boys coached by Tony Pellicane, Joe Partito and Anthony Ambrosini went undefeated over the course of the two day tournament with convincing victories over Winslow Township, Woodburry Heights and Monroe Township. The boys put a fine tournament together and are taking great strides as a team.
The club also posted two second place finishes with the U13 Strikers and the U10 Lady Strikers. The 13 year old boys battled hard throughout the tournament and were able to hold onto the second spot by virtue of a 1-0 nail biting victory over the host squad, the Deptford Chargers. The team is coached by Frank Mazza, Jr. and Jack Stermel. Phil Cardella, Mario Mazza, Justin Snyder and goalie Timmy Pastor had outstanding performances for the Strikers.
The Lady Strikers grabbed a second place spot of their own by going toe for toe with the #2 team in South Jersey, again, the host club's Deptford Diamonds. In an exhilirating match played to a draw, our girls played corner to corner and end to end with the tenacity of champions in a match to remember. Amber Dilks was called cold into action between the posts after Sammy D went down to a knee injury and kept the Ladies in the match. Offensively, Francesca Tronieri peppered the Deptford zone all match and Lizzie Stermel and Ondrea Hunt held down the fort in front of the South Philly net. The team is coached by Jack Stermel and Lenny Apadulla.
